The Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle, native to Southeast Asia and the Pacific, was first detected in Hawaii in 2013. Since then, it has spread across Oahu, attacking a wide range of palm and non-palm trees. The beetle's larvae bore into the crowns and trunks of trees, feeding on sap and tissue, which weakens and often kills the affected trees.

While the beetle can target a variety of trees, certain species are particularly susceptible:

Coconut Palms (Cocos nucifera): The primary host, causing significant damage to coconut plantations and ornamental palms.

- Royal Palms (Roystonea regia): Often attacked in urban landscapes and parks.

- Areca Palms (Dypsis lutescens):Commonly used in landscaping, vulnerable to beetle damage.

- Fishtail Palms (Caryota spp.):Attractive trees that are also at risk.

- Other ornamental palms also, mango, hala, sugar cane, banana, taro, pineapple, date palm, agave and all other types of palm trees
